Trekking to Everest Base Camp: A 12-Day Journey
The trek to Everest Base Camp is the most famous walk in the Himalaya — and for good reason. Over twelve days you climb from green river valleys into a high world of ice and stone, sleeping in teahouses and waking to some of the most dramatic mountain views on earth.
Why Everest Base Camp?
You will not actually see Everest from Base Camp itself — the summit hides behind the shoulder of Nuptse. What you get instead is the Khumbu Icefall tumbling down beside you, prayer flags snapping in the wind, and a sense of standing at the threshold of the highest place on the planet. The trek is hard but not technical — if you can walk uphill for five or six hours a day, you can reach Base Camp.
When to Go
Spring (March–May) is warmer, with rhododendrons in bloom and busier trails. Autumn (late September–November) has the clearest skies of the year and colder nights. Both seasons deliver — the choice is really about crowds and temperature.
